Weddings

Clergy Services was founded in 1980 to assist brides and grooms with the planning and performing of their wedding ceremony. Our staff includes six ministers who are fully ordained seminary graduates and represent major religious denominations. All are licensed to officiate at weddings in both Missouri and Kansas.   

Our ministers perform weddings at all venues including chapels, historic homes, parks, community centers and clubhouses. Fees range from $200 to $250 depending on the location. If the wedding is more than a half hour drive from Kansas City, Missouri, a travel fee may be charged. There is also an additional charge if a wedding rehearsal is scheduled. 

Prior to the ceremony a planning session is held with each couple and the minister officiating at your wedding. This is an opportunity to discuss and plan your ceremony content as well as specific details such as the entry and exit of the wedding party.   

To assist with the planning process, each couple receives a copy of “Our Wedding Celebration” with their wedding confirmation packet. This booklet provides a ceremony order as well as suggestions for vows, prayers, readings and special acts of celebration such as the lighting of a unity candle. How To Schedule Your Wedding 

To schedule a minister for you wedding, please call our office at 816. 753.3886. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. If you call after hours you may leave a message and we will call you back. You may also contact us by e-mail at rcoleman@clergyservices.com .

Scheduling your ceremony officiant requires a non-refundable deposit of one-half of the wedding services fee. The balance is due 30 days prior to the wedding ceremony. Each couple will receive written confirmation of their reservation and directions on how to contact the minister who will be assisting them.

To assist couples in finding a wedding site, Clergy Services maintains a website of wedding-related resources at www.101weddings.com. This site also serves as a valuable tool for locating photographers, caterers, musicians and a variety of other wedding professionals.   

Court House Weddings/Justice Of The Peace Weddings 

In addition to performing wedding at locations chosen by the couple, Clergy services works with the Jackson County Department of Records to coordinate wedding ceremonies at the Historic Jackson County Court House in Independence Missouri. Weddings are normally scheduled by appointment only on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings. (Weddings on other days can be arranged at another location). These are private ceremonies and each couple may invite up to ten guests. The fee is $50.00. To schedule a wedding at the Court House, call 816.753.3886.

How To Obtain A Marriage License

In Missouri, individuals must be at least 18 years old to obtain a marriage license. With parental consent, a license may be granted at 16 years of age. The license is then valid for 30 days. A marriage license may be obtained from any county courthouse in the County Clerk’s or Recorder of Deed’s office. Two pieces of identification are required – a driver’s license and social security card. The cost is $61, payable in cash. 

To be married in the State of Missouri, you must have a Missouri marriage license.
